The Allgäu winter has a lot to offer. In addition to the classic winter sports of cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and winter hiking, we would also like to add the following excursion destinations to your list of holiday ideas.
Oberstdorf is a hotspot for Nordic skiing. Various competitions take place here every year, including the highlights: the Four Hills Tournament and ski flying. The two venues - the Schattenberg ski stadium and the Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill are open to visitors all year round. Both offer, among other things, an insight into the history of ski jumping and a magnificent view from the ski jump tower.
The two world-famous castles Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau are located just a few kilometres from the centre of Füssen. Visiting the castles is a highlight in summer, but in winter it is a very special experience. The ride up to the castle in a horse-drawn carriage is the best tip for romantics.
In the Museum of the Bavarian Kings in Hohenschwangau, you can experience the history of the Wittelsbach royal family up close.
A special experience even without skis: all the mountain lifts around the Jägersberg are also accessible to pedestrians. Take a thrilling toboggan run on the Nebelhorn or enjoy a delicious homemade cake in the cosy Schrattenwang Alpe on the Söllereck. You can also find two particularly beautiful winter hiking trails around the cable cars here.
A must for all Allgäu holidaymakers. The Breitachklamm gorge is not only the deepest, but also one of the most beautiful rocky gorges in Central Europe. Its frozen ice curtains are particularly magical to behold in winter. In addition to the great hiking opportunities it is also a pure experience in itself. Our tip: In winter there are regular torchlight hikes.
